Is your patio furniture looking a little worse for wear? Is it time to upgrade from that first set you bought years ago? Or did you get a patio upgrade and now your old furniture looks dated and out of place? Whatever the problem is, we have good news: August is the best time to buy patio furniture.
Why, you may ask? Because all of the patio furniture stores and big box stores, whether they’re online or have a brick-and-mortar location are reducing prices now through October to clear their inventory. By late October, prices may be reduced by up to 70%, but the selection will be picked over.
That’s why it pays to start looking in mid to late August. Some stores start advertising their Labor Day Weekend sales far in advance. If you see an outdoor furniture set you like for a reasonable price, snap it up! But don’t buy something just because it’s a great deal. Buy it because it fits with your aesthetic and it’s comfortable!
By buying in August or September, you still have a few months of outdoor entertaining left where you can use your new furniture. All types of patio furniture, whether wicker, rattan, teak, cedar, wrought iron, etc. will eventually go on sale. If the weather is especially warm, some stores may not make big markdowns until later.
Your options include:
If you have your eye on a particular patio furniture set that’s sold by more than one merchant, consider signing up for their emails and following them on social media. Then you’ll be among the first to know of sales. Some websites also let you put items on your wish list and opt-in to receive notifications of a price change.
And don’t be afraid to look for a price match or free shipping. Sometimes it’s more cost-effective to order from an online merchant because they don’t have the overhead that a brick-and-mortar store does. Wayfair and Overstock are prime examples of this.
You can make outdoor furniture last longer by taking good care of it. Clean it regularly, remove rust, refinish or repaint, and store it for the winter. If you can’t store furniture in your garage or backyard shed, invest in good quality patio furniture covers. You want to protect your furniture from the cold rain, ice, and snow that winter brings.
At the very least, store any cushions.
