At Home Super Bowl LVII Tailgate Ideas

Super Bowl LVII will be played at the State Farm Arena in sunny Glendale, Arizona on Sunday. If you weren’t lucky enough to score tickets, you can still recreate the game atmosphere at home. By firing up the outdoor fireplace, fire pit, and patio heaters, you might replicate the warmth! But if all your guests want to stay inside, you can still get your grill on.

How to Watch the Game

First things first. For those with cable, the game will be on FOX. But it will also be available on various live TV streaming platforms including Sling TV, Hulu+, and Fubo TV. You may need to sign up for one of these if you don’t have an account already.

Have the game on showing on several TVs, in several rooms, and even outdoors if the weather allows. No one wants to miss a minute.

Decorate and Set the Tone

Choose the team you’ll be rooting for, and decorate indoors and out with the team colors. Hit the Dollar Store or party store tonight or tomorrow and stock up on streamers, plates, cups, utensils, etc. The Philadelphia Eagles colors are green, black, white, and silver;  while the Kansas City Chiefs colors are red, gold, and white.

If you have the gear, wear a team jersey, ball cap, beanie, or other team paraphernalia. If the team colors happen to match your local high school, you’re in luck. You may have pom poms and foam #1 fingers. Bring those out. Mardi Gras beads may work too, depending on your team.

Plan the Food

We all have our go-to tailgate favorites. Plan on including your crowd-pleasing traditions. But also consider adding something new to the mix, such as easy and tasty appetizers from the Food Network to keep people coming back for more while you’re grilling up the main course.

Buffalo Chicken Brie

Toss 1 ½ cups shredded rotisserie chicken with 3 tablespoons of Buffalo wing sauce. Slice off the top rind of a small wheel of brie. Place the brie on a sheet of nonstick foil; top with the chicken and 1 T diced celery. Bring the edges of the foil together and seal, leaving room in the packet. Grill over medium-low heat until the cheese is soft, about 8 minutes. Unwrap and top with blue cheese dressing and sliced scallions. Serve with crackers.

Philly Cheesesteak Hand Pies

Sauté 1/2 of a finely chopped onion in vegetable oil until tender; let cool. Cut out ten 4 1/2-inch rounds of refrigerated pie dough. Top each with 1/2 slice American cheese (or provolone or Cheese Whiz), 1 tablespoon chopped deli-sliced roast beef, and the onions, piling the filling on one side. Refrigerate 20 minutes. Brush the edges of the dough with beaten egg, then fold into half-moons; press the edges to seal and pierce the tops a few times with a fork to allow ventilation. Bake at 400 degrees F until browned, 20 to 25 minutes.

Plan the Drinks

Stock up on your alcoholic beverages (beer, hard cider, and hard seltzer are always popular) and plenty of water bottles and non-alcoholic beverages for those who don’t drink or are designated drivers.

Have Fun

No matter who wins, have fun with friends and family. Whether you’re really into the game or watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and halftime show, there’s something for everyone.
