Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”

This coming Monday is MLK Day, a day to honor the work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. If you have kids, they may be excited to have a day off school. But it’s so much more than that. It’s also a time to learn about MLK and attend some meaningful events or participate in a Day of Service.

We’re lucky in this area that we have a lot to choose from.

The Washington DC Peace Walk and Parade is an annual event on the federal holiday. It’s surrounded by other events such as the Prayer Breakfast on Saturday and Community Cleanup after the parade. Participation is free and open to residents of DC and surrounding areas.

Volunteer Day (or Week) of Service

Other communities, such as Alexandria, VA and Montgomery County, MD have websites you can check for volunteer opportunities.

Not seeing what you’re looking for? Use the AmeriCorps MLK Day tools to find a service event near you, or to create one of your own.

Visit the MLK Memorial

If you haven’t already, make plans to visit the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in DC. Before your visit, be sure to click on the link and read the story behind the building of the memorial. It’s inspiring.

“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.”

We hope you and your family make the most of these opportunities. And if you are thinking about upgrading your outdoor living spaces this year, we hope you’ll consider us.

We are now setting design consultation appointments for spring installation. Check out our Portfolio for examples of our work, and to get inspired. We work with homeowners throughout the Capital Region, including Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C.
