Labor Day Weekend 2022: Things to Do
With Labor Day festivities and festivities in general canceled for the past couple of years, it’s great to have a lot of fun options this year. Now, granted, you may have a list a mile long of things you need to do around the house and yard. But give yourself a break, and schedule in some fun. Here are just a few of the events going on in Maryland and Northern Virginia.
Greenbelt Labor Day Festival September 2-5, 2022
The Greenbelt Labor Day Festival features fun for all ages! From live music to carnival rides to the arts and crafts show, there’s something for everyone. The annual Labor Day parade will be Monday the 5th from 10 AM to 12 PM. Entering its 68th year, the festival is, of course, held in Greenbelt, Maryland.
Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade September 5, 2022
The Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade is set for Labor Day Mondy from 1-3 PM. It returns after a 2-year hiatus. Now in its 84th year, the parade features marching bands, dance groups, equestrian units, antique cars, clowns, and more. Take advantage of the free parking at the Lakeforest Mall Transit Center and free shuttle to the parade route.
Maryland Renaissance Festival Weekends through October 2022
The Maryland Renaissance Festival is always worth a visit, whether you choose to do so on Labor Day Weekend or later in the fall. Located in Crownsville, near Annapolis, walking onto the festival grounds is like traveling back in time. From staged performances to wandering minstrels to blacksmithing and glassblowing, there are activities to entertain all ages. And the food is phenomenal! September 3-4 is Romance Weekend, with special offerings for singles, couples wishing to renew their vows, and Seniors 62+ looking for a deal. (Seniors get in FREE on Labor Day.)
Maryland State Fair September 1-5
Labor Day Weekend marks the middle weekend of the Maryland State Fair in Timonium. Take the kids to enjoy the rides, food, and animal exhibits. Take in a magic show, listen to live music, or even learn how to throw an ax! You can also watch live thoroughbred horse racing and pig racing.
Virginia Scottish Games September 3-4, 2022
Entering its 48th year, the Virginia Scottish Games Festival is held in Plains, VA, at the Great Meadow events center. That’s in Farquier County right off interstate 66. You don’t have to be of Scottish heritage to have a great time. Enjoy music, dance, competition, and of course, the food (and Scotch)! And a bonus: the festival is dog-friendly.
Host the Last (Probably) Pool Party of the Summer
Labor Day weekend is also a great time to host the last pool party of the summer. It may not be the last time you use your inground pool, but the last time this year that you hold a big pool party. This is especially true if you have kids involved in any sport of sports or school activities. Your spare time seems to get eaten up by running them around town.
So, take this time to enjoy family and friends poolside.
